This is the Garden: A Cantata of New York, was written by Marc Blitzstein in 1957 with a creative and exuberant concern for social justice still relevant today. Its melodic and rhythmic patterns are reminiscent of Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story which was composed after Blitzstein's work. Familiar selections from Bernstein's Mass, Candide, and West Side Story complete the program. |
